UK Tourist Enjoy The Warm Climate Of Lanzarote

Posted by charity to GAZA Friday, December 24, 2010

Lanzarote is a very popular island for tourists because of the excellent year round climate. Lanzarote is in the Canary Islands, a group of Spanish islands 125 km off the coast of Africa. The location is nearer to the equator than Spain and all other European holiday destinations. This means that the weather is warmer than Europe in the winter months.
Lanzarote is a volcanic island which is one of the main attractions. There are over 300 volcanoes which have over time shaped the unique landscape. Some visitors to Lanzarote say that it resembles the moon, with lava fields and old volcanic peaks. This also gives the island the dark sand on the beaches.
Lanzarote has 213 km of coastline, the island is 60 km from north to south and 25 km wide. The population is almost 140,000. Most are Spanish but there is also a large number of foreign expats there too. The biggest industry is tourism, unlike many European destinations, Lanzarote is popular with tourists all year round.
Visitors usually go for the beaches. There are busy areas with an excellent tourist infrastructure, and plenty of lesser known spots for those seeking peace. Many tourists enjoy hiring a car for their stay, this allows them to explore the island and the beaches at their leisure. Lanzarote is small enough to drive around in a day, there is always a beach close by and somewhere to stop off for some food.

A holiday in Lanzarote wouldn't be complete without visiting the interior. The landscape is like nothing most people have ever seen. The flora and fauna is sparse because of the volcanic nature of the island, but the hilly rock formations are still very attractive. Great views can be enjoyed by driving up to one of the many volcanic peaks.
Although next to Africa, Lanzarote is actually very cheap to get to. Package holidays are only slightly more expensive than more traditional destinations like Spain. The accommodation ranges from basic 2 star hotels to grand 5 star resorts. Most flights are charter flights run with package holiday companies, there are some great bargains to be had for travelers just wishing to buy a flight alone.

The island is the same time zone as the UK, it takes 4 hours to fly there from London. The more popular beaches offer a choice of water sports, there is a great water park and also a zoo. There are various other activities, one of the more adventurous ones is to take a submarine trip which is quite an experience. Lanzarote has activities to suit all ages.
